Frequently Asked Question

If you didn’t find your answers elsewhere on this site, look here.

Q: What’s the general area like where the Studio is located?

A: The property is in a nice area in Bennett Valley in the Southeastern section of Santa Rosa. Although it’s within City limits, it doesn’t feel like “city” here. The area is a safe, relaxed California suburban neighborhood with well-maintained homes. The property itself is adjacent to a creek and features a wonderful natural setting as it slopes down to the creek. Feels a lot like “country” in the middle of an urban area. Yet you are within easy reach of major roads, including two highways that run through Santa Rosa.

Q: What is the weather like in Santa Rosa?

A: Santa Rosa is a Mediterranean climate, so it doesn’t get too hot and it doesn’t get too cold. Summertime temperatures range in the 80s, maybe higher for a couple of weeks out of the year. Summer often extends (and even intensifies) into late September. Evenings usually cool down to the 50s. Winter temperatures are usually in the mid-mid-50s in daytime and may drop to the low 30s in the middle of the night. In the winter, it can rain quite a bit. Average rainfall is around 30 inches per year, most of it falling from December to March.

Packing Tip: Plan on “layering,” since the temperature may vary quite a bit through the day. If you take day trips from here, keep in mind that there are a lot of temperature ranges within a relatively short distance from Santa Rosa. So, you’d want to pack a sweater or jacket and long sleeve pants/shirts along with your short stuff. You may end up wearing ALL of them in a single day. The coast (35-40 minutes away) is considerably cooler, while the central valley (35-40 minutes the other way) is considerably warmer.

Q: Do you allow pets?

A: Sorry, we don’t accept pets. We understand yours may be well behaved, but pet dander could be a problem for guests who come after you. We can recommend nearby pet hotel facilities if you’re interested.

Q: Is the Studio kid friendly?

A: We welcome children, although the property isn’t kid-proofed for very young children. It’s probably not toddler friendly, since there are multiple things at toddler level that should not be touched.

Q: What does the Studio offer if we want to cook meals there?

A: The Studio’s kitchen is small but quite functional. It features everything you need except an oven, so all cooking would be done on the four-burner stove, in the microwave, the toaster oven or the gas BBQ grille outside. There is a half-fridge in the unit.

Q: Are there laundry facilities nearby?

A: Yes, see the Attractions page for details on this and other services and attractions. There are two laundromats within a few minutes drive.

Q: What about bikes and biking?

A: Santa Rosa is very bike-friendly. Most of the main streets have bike lanes, and you can travel throughout the city safely by bike. There are also two great parks nearby, both of which are bike friendly (Look up Annadel and Howarth in Attractions). You can store your bikes behind the Studio, but we don’t offer locked facilities.

Q: How much privacy can we expect?

A: Quite a bit. The unit is detached from the main house, and you’re pretty much on your own. Inside the unit with the blinds drawn, you’ll feel comfortably alone indoors at all hours. No one can see in, although you may be able to catch glimpses of the outside. Sound is never a problem inside the unit, although outdoors, you will hear some sounds of civilization in the distance. We are very sensitive to your privacy, and you won’t see much of us during your stay unless, of course, you want to socialize. It all depends on you. However, we do share the brick courtyard area in common, so we may occasionally sit at the table outside on a nice day.

Q: What is the hot tub like?

A: Our spa comfortably accommodates three people (four is possible, but it gets tight…) The temperature typically stays at 102 degrees, and we regularly check and treat the water to keep it hygienic. You can use it any time of day or night. The tub is behind the unit and faces the creek, so there’s a natural setting with a lush wall of green. Clothing optional bathing is fine, since the property is nearly completely shielded from view. Please note, however, that we also use the tub occasionally. To  maintain privacy, the best practice is to peak around the corner to see if the cover is off the tub before proceeding.

Q: How are check-in and check-out handled?

A: Once you have paid for your reservation, we email you instructions on checking yourself in, including where to find the key. So, you can arrive any time of day or night past 3:00 p.m. Check-out is likewise self-service. Just leave the key and lock the unit behind you.

Q: What are the sleeping accommodations like?

A: The unit sleeps two to four. The queen-size bed features a medium firm mattress. Two additional guests may be accommodated on the queen-size pullout sleeper sofa, which is equipped with an inflatable air mattress top. Remember, this is a studio layout, meaning that there is one room for both sleeping and living, so it may not be the best choice for a party of four where everyone isn’t comfortable sharing a room together.

Q: How do we make a reservation?

A: Check the Calendar to make sure your selected dates are available. The calendar is kept up to date. Then you simply email or call us to request a reservation. We’ll respond with a confirmation email that includes the exact cost of your stay and the Rental Agreement. To lock in your reservation, just reply to that email and make your payment.

Q: Can we “think about” it or put a tentative hold on our dates?

A: Sorry, but we get multiple inquiries for most dates, and our policy is to offer the unit to the first guests who complete their reservation.

Q: How do payments work?

A: We accept (and prefer) payments by credit or debit card through PayPal. You don’t have to use a PayPal account to do this; you can log in and pay as a guest to use your card. For arrivals less than 60 days away, full payment is required to confirm your reservation. For more than 60 days, we will break the payment in half upon request. The balance is due 30 days before arrival. We do accept checks (payable to Creekside Studio) but only if the arrival is more than 30 days away.

Q: Is the deposit refundable?

A: The reservation/damage deposit is fully refundable if you cancel more than 30 days prior to your scheduled arrival date. It is also refundable following your stay provided nothing is broken, lost, damaged, etc. The refund check is mailed following checkout and cleaning, typically within 48 hours.

Q: How do we make a payment through PayPal using our credit or debit card?

You may pay electronically using PayPal, regardless of whether you have a PayPal account, or even if you do have one but don’t want to use it. But, keep in mind, PayPal wants you to use their service since they make more money that way. So, it can be a little tricky to pay without creating or logging into a PayPal account. We provide instructions tell you how…

You will receive an email with a “money request” from us. Click the link in the email, which will open up a PayPal payment page. If you want to use an existing PayPal account or want to open one, then simply log in and follow the on-screen instructions. However, if you just want to make a card payment WITHOUT logging into PayPal, then follow the instructions to pay “as a guest” by selecting the option “Don’t have a PayPal account.” If you have any questions along the way, please Contact Us. We’re always glad to help!
